TL: Magickal Anatomy, Magick Easy
MAGICKAL ANATOMY/MAKING MAGICK EASY
MICHAEL HARISMIDES
The discussion must begin with an outlining of the occult
anatomy and the energy that flows through it. An understanding of
the integrated system of the aura, kundalini and chakras is basic
to the working of all magick. Chi (chinese), prana (hindu),
orgone (wilhelm reich), od (von eichenbach), anthropoflux
(farny), or vril (german) are all names that have been used to
describe the life energy that flows through our physical and
subtle (nonphysical) bodies. This energy is especially important
in magickal matters. It is our life's blood in more ways than
one. It flows throughout the magickal anatomy via the meridians,
kundalini, and chakras. Some of these systems will be touched on
here. Understanding the system can help us get better results
with our magick, for this energy can be controlled and directed
in a number of ways to achieve desired results.
*The aura*
The aura is an energy field. Kirlian photography, invented
in the soviet union, can capture the aura on film. From this
process it appears that the field is electrical in nature. Since
it varies with health and illness we may conjecture that it is
generated by the cells of the body. The aura is composed of a
series of bands that surround the body in an egg─like shape.
There are variations between individuals and due to health and
gender. While there are a number of interpretations of the
components of the aura kilner in the aura, describes three. The
etheric double which is also often mentioned in books on astral
projection is the innermost portion. It follows the contours
of the body but does not extend very far. The inner aura is the
densest part and it is 2 to 4 inches wide, granular in texture
and follows the contours of the body. The outer aura is wider and
gives the large ovoid shape to the aura. It's exact limits are
not defined as it becomes less and less dense as it extends
outwards. Rays can be seen within the inner aura, going from one
part of the body to another and also extending out from the body.
Observation shows that the rays may be controlled by the will. It
is also easier to direct a ray from a pointed body part than from
a flat area. While the subject of color is most important to
those who see color it does have implications for healing work.
Just as we can send out rays from our auras we can change the
color of the aura. By altering the color of our own aura or
influencing anothers we can bring about changes.
*Practice #1*
There are a number of aura exercises. The object is to get a
'feel' for the aura and maybe even a glimpse of it. In the
first exercise you will need a partner. Have the other person sit
sideways in a chair or on the floor with spine straight. With
your eyes closed put your hand about a foot above their head.
Slowly lower your hand trying to sense the limits of their aura.
After some practice you should feel a slight barrier, springiness,
or change in temperature. You can try this on other parts of
their body with them sitting or lying.
*Practice #2*
If you want to try to see the aura you can try this exercise.
You will need a mirror, white backround and a candle. If possible
this is best done in the bathroom. You set the lit candle to the
side so that it gives light but is out of your direct line of
sight. With a white backround look into the mirror. Gaze at the
area around your head. Don't stare. Your eyes may become
unfocussed. You will probably see the aura following the outline
of your head. If you practice you may see the colors.
For further studies on the aura you can read the following

*The kundalini system*
This system is composed of three channels. They are the ida,
the pingala, and the sushumna. The sushumna is the central
channel that can be visualized as a deep blue current beginning
at the base of the spine (coccyx) and terminating at the base of
the skull (medulla oblongata).
The other channels begin at the base of the spine also and
travel upwards weaving from side to side three times before
terminating at the base of the skull. The ida may be visualized as
crimson and begins its ascent on your left for men/right for
women. The pingala is seen as yellow and begins on the opposite
side. It should be noted that all practices and visualizations
are subject to your own judgement via experience. While these
colors and right/left pathways are 'traditional' they may not
work for you. Try them carefully. Keep in mind that these
attributions have been made by heterosexual folk, by and large,
and may vary for you.
The practice to work with this material we utilize
visualization. Through practice we can become more conscious of
the channels and sensitive to their flow. But, be aware that this
is a very powerful force. Sexual energy is perhaps the most
powerful energy we have and the most difficult to control. When
doing the practice calm and ground yourself first and afterwards.
I have known students who have actually felt kicked in the spine
during this practice.
Grounding is very important. Instructions follow.
First sit cross─legged or in a chair. Your spine must be
straight. Calm your mind, turning away from distracting thoughts.
(I am assuming that all have had basic training so I will not go
into detail. For the best source of this type of centering
meditation see Initiation Into Hermetics by Bardon.) Visualize
the central channel─the sushumna. See the deep blue flow as it
begins at the base of your spine and move your attention slowly
upwards with the flow until it reaches the top of the spine. Hold
this visualization for a few moments. Next see the ida as it
originates at the base. See this crimson current moving from the
left (men) upwards, crossing the spine to the right at about the
height of your navel (solar plexus), back to the left at your
heart, and back to the right as it passes the area of your adam's
apple, finally ending in the base of the skull. Again, feel the
flow of the current and see the crimson color. You may feel
warmer as energy/'heat' is released.
Finally, we visualize the pingala. This yellow flow begins on
the right (men) moving upwards turning left at your navel, right
at the level of the heart and left after passing your throat,
ending in the base of the skull. Try to hold the combined vision
of the three channels. (This may take some practice to
accomplish.) To end, reverse the process sending energy
downwards via the same channels. See excess energy flowing into
the earth. You equalize the energy.Finishing the exercise
energized but not drained or over charged. Sources for further
information on the kundalini and meditation.

*The Chakras*
There are seven basic chakras. The word is sanscrit for
"wheel".Knowing this can aid in visualization. The chakras can be
seen as shifting, corruscating, colored 'wheels' that originate
at the spine in the sushumna and float forwards like water
lilies, surfacing on the front of your aura at certain anatomical
points. As you may guess, the places where the ida and pingala
turn from side to side crossing the central channel are places
where chakras surface. We will begin at the bottom as we did for
the kundalini. The base or root chakra is at the base of the
spine (a spot on the perineum between the anus and scrotum or
vagina). The next is the sacral chakra located at the base of the
penis or roof of the vagina. The next is at the height of the
navel or solar plexus. Then, at the heart, followed by the
throat. The next is at a point often referred as the third eye.
It is between your eyebrows. The last chakra is the crown and is
just above the head. Remember that your aura is larger than your
physical body and the crown chakra
is within the area above your head in the aura.
Practice though the chakras can be visualized in color, it
is demanding to try to maintain seven circles in color. Once youu
are more familiar with them you may elaborate on the basic
exercises. I learned a simple method of opening and closing the
chakras at a workshop given by dolores ashcroft─nowicki.
Visualize the shushumna as a column of light─like a neon bulb.
The chakras can be seen as closed eyes placed at the feet (this
should be done standing), base, solar plexus, heart, throat,
third eye, and crown. From the top down open the eyes one at a
time. Be aware of the change in energy. When all are open pause
for a short time. Then slowly close them from the bottom up and
see the central column shrink and disappear. Furthur research
on your part can produce more correspondences with color and
sounds.
Experience with this practice will also be very useful in
magick as each chakra can be utilized for different purposes.
Using visualization we may set into motion actions that will
result in changes in physical systems. It is easier to work on
the energy that is the precursor of matter than formed matter
itself. By observing the lunar, seasonal, and astrological tides
we can work with the natural flow to our advantage.
